WOODS FIRE
On Saturday March 22nd at 2:35pm, Station 36 personnel were dispatched to a reported woods fire involving 5 plus acres. While
enroute 11-36 requested 2 additional stations due to size of smoke column seen 5 miles out. Forestry 1 requested multiple
additional forestry units and a dozer to be enroute also prior to arrival. Units arrived to find a large woods fire in excess of 70
acres with sustained winds in excess of 30mph blowing to the Northwest. Defensive measures were put into place consisting of
back burns and fire lines. Additional stations were quickly requested for structural protection and also for fire attack. Operations
were broken down into Stokes and Rockingham Ops due to the fire spreading into Rockingham County. Units were deployed from
Stokes, Rockingham, Forsyth, Patrick, Guilford, and Henry Counties.
